Richarlison scored an early goal-of-the-season contender as Thomas Frank's Tottenham cruised to a 3-0 victory over Burnley.

The Brazilian inspired Frank's first Premier League victory in charge of Spurs, at the first time of asking, as he acrobatically volleyed in Mohammed Kudus' cross to score his side's second of the game.

Frank can thank the same duo for the first goal of his reign, too, as Kudus provided Richarlison's first of the afternoon when he found Tottenham's No 9 with a cross, which he finished with a volley, though not nearly as impressive as the second.

Player ratings:

Tottenham: Vicario (6), Spence (7), Van de Ven (7), Romero (7), Porro (6), Bergvall (8), Gray (7), Sarr (7), Johnson (7), Kudus (8), Richarlison (8).

Subs: Bentancur (6), Solanke (6), Palhinha (6), Odobert (6), Tel (n/a)

Burnley Dubravka (5), Walker (4), Hartman (5), Esteve (3), Foster (6), Anthony (6), Ekdal (5), Sonne (5), Cullen (6), Hannibal (4), Laurent (5)

Subs: Larsen (5), Ugochukwu (6), Tchaouna (6), Flemming (5) Edwards (n/a)

Player of the Match: Richarlison

Brennan Johnson added a third for Spurs just as the euphoria of the second began to settle in N17, softly dinking over Martin Dubravka to finish a well-made move.

While the Europa League champions claimed the three points with ease in the second half, Scott Parker's side did make his former club work despite their lead in the first.

Burnley ended the first half having had more shots, three to Spurs' two, and more touches in the opposition area, 10 compared to Spurs' six. Hannibal also spurned a huge chance, set up by Jaidon Anthony, but his hesitation allowed the Spurs backline to converge and snuff out the danger.

However, with no match for the physicality and pace of Spurs' turnovers, Parker will rue his own side's mistakes and lax approach in possession for their defeat upon their return to the top flight.

Frank has rejuvenated Richarlison to thank for perfect start

Analysis by Sky Sports' Laura Hunter:

Suggestions were made about an exit plan for Richarlison this summer. The forward only managed four league starts for Tottenham last season and 500 minutes in total. His four goals were indicative of a campaign blighted by injuries, with form impossible to come by as a bit-part player under Ange Postecoglou.

But this version of Richarlison, fully fit and firing, is altogether different. He finally looks ready to live up to the promise of a No 9, buoyed by Thomas Frank's trust to play the starring role ahead of Dominic Solanke.

An impressive double in Tottenham's 3-0 win over Burnley hinted at a player rejuvenated. It's hard to imagine a more perfect start for new boss Frank, with summer addition Mohammed Kudus providing both assists for Richarlison to deliver two special goals.

The forward has only teased his quality since arriving in north London from Everton back in 2022. Many questioned his £60m price tag. They were right to. But if this latest performance is a sign of things to come, excitement should swiftly replace the apathy.

Frank: It was a dream start

Spurs boss Thomas Frank:

"It was a perfect start, a dream start. We all know we need to follow up on it, but today I will just enjoy it. I hope the players, the club, the fans enjoy it today because that's important.

"A good performance against a difficult opponent is never easy in the Premier League."

"[Richarlison] deserves a lot of praise. I think he was very good against PSG. Today, he was exceptional. His work rate - he's driving the team - link-up play, hold-up play, dominating two finishes. I'm so happy on his behalf.

"Again, top job to build him [from the medical staff]. I think you know that he was not involved in the first friendly because we had to build him and that will continue.

"It's something we need to look for throughout the season. This is only the second game of the season. It's a long way home. But very positive today with him."

Parker: Fine margins of the Premier League went against us

Burnley boss Scott Parker:

"The fine margins of the Premier League were at the face of the defeat and that's probably the main thing that comes out of this.

"We started the game slowly and Tottenham certainly put us under a lot of pressure, which wasn't ideal for us and we went a goal down.

"Our reaction was very good. We created numerous chances and I felt we were really in the game in terms of showing real pressure to it.

"Second half, we came out bright, missed a massive chance to maybe go level and then the 'clinicality' of the Premier League, that obviously produced a world-class finish and that probably just seems to go away from us.

"That's one of the biggest learnings from today, the 'clinicalness' you have to be at, how quick you have to get your shot off.

"You don't have a lot of time in the Premier League against world-class players, and that's the ruthlessness of the Premier League - all concentration, keeping attention constantly, because the game at any moment can turn."
